Afghanistan is a multicultural, landlocked nation in south-central Asia. Afghanistan has long been a prize sought after by empire builders because it lies along vital trade routes connecting southern and eastern Asia to Europe and the Middle East. For millennia great armies have attempted to conquer it, leaving records of their efforts in enormous monuments that are now in ruins. The country's barren landscape of mountains and deserts, as well as the unyielding resistance of its fiercely independent peoples, have put an end to many imperial ambitions. In fact, the country's people are so independent that it has long survived as a patchwork of conflicting ethnic factions and ephemeral alliances rather than as a single nation.
Regarding cultural and world heritage, Afghanistan is a worthwhile destination. Although there isn't much of a concern for security issues, the local government is highly watchful about them, particularly where hill passes and rivers draw crowds. There will always be worries, but with the right preparation, careful planning, and a trustworthy tour guide, you may have a fulfilling and enjoyable trip.
Afghanistan does not have a railroad system, however, there are frequently scheduled buses that travel to critical locations in Kabul. Although Millie Bus offers a variety of routes throughout the city, it is recommended to hire cabs if you want to reach your site more quickly. Regular connections exist between Jalalabad and Peshawar in Pakistan and Herat and Mashad in Iran, however, be aware that delays can result from border formalities.Text element
Long-distance buses
The Kabul-Mazar-i-Sharif bus is the only "safe" long-distance bus route that Westerners can travel. However, the road was ruled dangerous for public travel during our initial visit. While you're there, ask a local whether the road is suitable for travel.
Inner-city buses
Although these buses can become crowded, they are unbeatably cheap transportation, costing about 5 to 10 Afs every journey. Although there are predetermined bus stops, you can always try to get off in between. Though couples can sit together in the middle, males often sit in the front and women in the rear.
Water Taxis
The inland waterway can be used to travel to and from different parts of the nation. With major ports located along the banks of the Amu Darya River in Shair Khan, Kheyrabad, and Keleft, it acts as a connecting channel.
Private taxis
In all of the major Afghan cities, as well as a few outside the city limits, you can find yellow (almost) taxis. Although there are no meters, an inner-city ride can begin at about 50 Afs and shouldn't cost more than 200 Afs, but you may occasionally need to haggle. Set a price in advance, always! If the quoted price doesn't seem unusually exorbitant, aim for 2/3 of it.
In reality, a taxi might be any vehicle that is willing to stop. You can choose whether or not to take the journey, but if you're alone, it's a little safer to stick with the yellow cabs.
The national currency of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is the Afghani (AFN). The introduction of the ISO 4217 code, AFN, as part of initiatives to stabilize the currency and lower inflation, took place in 2003. It had previously been traded under the letter AFA.
1 USD = 88.00 AFN
The national languages are Pashto and Persian (Dari), both Indo-European tongues. Pashto, the language of the Pashtuns, is spoken by more than two-fifths of the people, while about half speak a Persian dialect.
In the face of fluctuating currency rates and worries about looting, there are no money conversion services available, and empty ATMs all across the city.
Afghanistan operates on AFT (Afghanistan Time). Daylight Saving Time (DST) has never been utilized in the nation; regular time is observed throughout the year. Afghanistan, unlike the majority of other nations, has a half-hour offset instead of the customary full-hour offset: UTC+4:30. Accordingly, the nation is 4 hours, 30 minutes ahead of UTC.
Afghanistan has a dry continental climate with significant seasonal variation in both temperature and precipitation.
