The architecture, shopping, and cuisine in Singapore make it a popular urban retreat. Regarding protecting green spaces and other outdoor areas, Singapore, particularly the National Parks Board, has achieved considerable strides. On Sentosa Island, in addition to the (instead of manufactured) beaches and amusement parks, there are several more opportunities to discover Singapore's rich natural environment. This list of 10 Singapore outdoor places includes everything from nature trails to mangrove forests to skywalks.
One of Singapore's most recognizable symbols is the Merlion, an aquatic creature with a fish's body and a legendary creature's head. Near One Fullerton in Singapore's Central Business District lies the iconic Merlion Park, a significant tourist attraction and a Singapore landmark. The park has two Merlion sculptures. Initially, the Merlion was an 8.6-meter-tall monument with a water-spouting mouth. In addition to the prominent memorial, a smaller Merlion cub stands barely 2 meters tall.
One of Singapore's oldest reservoirs (the MacRitchie Reservoir) An earth embankment impounding system finished in 1868 gave the reservoir its original name of Thomson Reservoir and allowed water to be stored there.
Changi Beach Park is a beach park in Singapore's eastern district, near the northern point of Changi. As one of Singapore's oldest coastal parks, the 28-hectare beach park has maintained its 1960s and 1970s "kampung" or village ambiance.
Haw Par Villa is a Singaporean amusement park situated on Pasir Panjang Road. Some 1,050 large-scale models show Chinese folklore and mythology and historical events, and examples of Confucianism throughout the park. The park was a popular tourist destination in Singapore throughout the 1970s and 1980s, drawing an estimated 1 million people a year. As a result, it has been hailed as a national treasure. Journeys, the park operator, is now working to revitalize the park by hosting themed events and developing and building auxiliary museums.
Just off Singapore's southern shore, Sentosa Island is home to Resorts World Sentosa, an integrated resort and entertainment complex. In addition to Singapore's two casinos, a Universal Studios theme park, a water park called Adventure Cove, and the world's second-largest oceanarium, S.E.A. Aquarium is a must-see in the city. Developer Genting Singapore built the S$6.59 billion casinos and resort complex. It was the third most costly structure built-in 2010 after the Empire State Building and the Space Needle. The resort will employ over 10,000 people throughout its 49 hectares of the property when fully operational. Resorts World Genting in Malaysia and Resorts World Manila in the Philippines are resorts of Resorts World Sentosa. First, the FestiveWalk retail mall opened its doors on February 1, followed by the soft opening of the first four hotels on January 20, 2010. On the first day of the Chinese New Year in 2010, the casino opened its doors. This museum debuted on October 15, 2011, and the last exhibit, the Marine Life Park, opened on November 22, 2012. On December 7, 2012, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Genting Group Chairman Lim Kok Thay presided at the integrated resort's grand inauguration.
